To study the effect of biofertilizers and zinc sulfate on some morphological and yield characteristics of summer savory (Satureja hortensis L.), an experiment was conducted as a factorial in a randomized complete block design with three replications in the research farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Maragheh University in 2013. Treatments included biofertilizers (1: no inoculation (control), seeds inoculated with 2: Nitroxin and 3: Super Nitro Plus) and foliar spray of plants with zinc sulfate (the concentration of 0, 2.5 and 5 per thousand). The results showed that the effect of biofertilizers and zinc sulfate on the number of branches per plant, flowering shoots dry weight per plant, wet and dry weight of aerial parts at 50% flowering stage, biological yield and essential oil yield was significant. The highest values of these traits were obtained in Super Nitro Plus and Nitroxin inoculation treatments, respectively. Plant height was also increased by applying zinc sulfate at concentrations of 2.5 and 5 per thousand compared to the control. Stem diameter reached to the maximum value under Super Nitro Plus + zinc sulfate foliar spray at a concentration of 2.5 per thousand and Nitroxin + zinc sulfate foliar spray at a concentration of 5 per thousand treatments. The treatments of zinc sulfate at a concentration of 5 per thousand + Super Nitro Plus and zinc sulfate at a concentrations of 2.5 and 5 per thousand + Nitroxin with the highest percentage of essential oil, increased the amount of summer savory essential oil by 34.5% compared to the control. In summary, the results of this study showed that Super Nitro Plus, Nitroxin, and zinc sulfate can be used to promote plant growth and increase the essential oil of summer savory.

Vitamins affect many metabolic and biological processes in plants and participate in the synthesis of enzymes, nucleic acids, and proteins as coenzyme in their metabolic pathways. In order to evaluate the effect of foliar application of thiamine on growth, yield, yield components and essential oil of fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.), a field experiment was conducted as factorial on the basis of a randomized complete block design with three replications at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Maragheh, Iran in 2015. The treatments were included three levels of thiamine foliar application (zero; distilled water), 50 and 100 μm/l) and foliar application stages in four levels of stem elongation, flowering, grain filing, and all three stages. The results showed that the effect of thiamine on all traits was significant. The concentration of 50 μm/l thiamine had the maximum increasing effect on the number of sub stems, number of umbels per plant, number of umbelets per umbel, number of grains per umbelet, grain yield, and essential oil yield and the concentration of 100 μm/l thiamine had the maximum increasing effect on the plant height, 1000-grain weight, biological yield, and essential oil percentage, compared to control. The effect of foliar application stages on the number of umbelets per umbel, number of grains per umbelt, and 1000-grain weight were significant and their highest values were obtained by thiamine foliar application in all three stages (stemming, flowering, grain filing). The interaction effects of the treatments were not significant on any of the traits. In general, results of this experiment showed that the foliar application of 50 and 100 μm/l thiamine at stemming, flowering, and grain filing stages can improve the seed yield and essential oil yield of fennel.

Moldavian balm (Dracocephalum moldavica L.), belonging to the Lamiaceae family, is an annual and aromatic plant, which is used in traditional and modern medicine in the treatment of gastrointestinal and cardiovascular disorders. In order to evaluate the effect of salicylic acid on yield and essential oil of Moldavian balm under drought stress conditions, a field experiment was conducted as a split plot based on randomized complete blocks design with three replications at the Department of Natural Resources and Watershed of Piranshahr City in 2012. The main factor was irrigation at three levels (40, 80 and 120 mm evaporation from pan), and the sub factor was plant spraying with salicylic acid at three levels (0, 0.5 and 1 mM). Results showed that the effect of drought stress on dry yield, thousand seed weight, harvest index of flowering stem, and essential oil yield was significant. Similar results were obtained for the effect of plant spraying with salicylic acid on dry weight and essential oil yield. It should be noted that dry yield and essential oils yield were most affected by drought stress. In addition, the highest values of thousand seed weight and harvest index of flowering stem was related to the irrigation treatment of 120 mm evaporation. The present study results also showed that the interaction effect of two factors studied on essential oil percentage and essential oil harvest index was significant. In this regard, the maximum amount of essential oil and essential oil harvest index belonged to application of 1 mM salicylic acid in irrigation treatment of 120 mm evaporation from pan.
